Turkey Trot

SCITUATE, R.I., NOVEMBER. 28, 2023 – This year, the three Scituate Public Elementary Schools - Clayville, Hope, and North Scituate - collectively raised a total amount of $28,952 as a result of their annual Turkey Trots. The Turkey Trots function as Walkathons hosted by the Clayville and North Scituate Parent Teacher Organizations and the Hope Parent Teacher Association. Each year the PTOs and PTA help organize events to raise money so that students can participate in special field trips, hands-on learning experiences, and assemblies with noteworthy public speakers.

"The PTOs at Clayville and North Scituate and the Hope PTA were instrumental in helping to get the word out, organize, and obtain volunteers to help with the Clayville and Hope Elementary Turkey Trot and the North Scituate Elementary Walkathon,” said Superintendent Laurie Andries. “With the funds that were raised with the help of our community volunteers, parents, and teachers, our elementary schools will be able to use these funds to offer students new and exciting learning experiences.”

The annual Walkathons not only encourage students to embrace outdoor activities and physical exercise but also offer families and community members the chance to contribute financially. Students participate in a variety of outdoor activities and earn rewards for each lap they complete around the schoolyard. At Hope and Clayville, students earned different colored bracelets for each lap they completed. At North Scituate, students were given key chains and for each lap they completed they were given a bead to add to their keychain.

Highlighting the significance of community support, the Hope Elementary Parent Teacher Association's donation site emphasizes, “Hope Elementary is a school where student learning thrives, and children feel good about the place they call their school. We believe this is because of the incredible students that attend our school, the awesome staff who believe that relationships with students are key to optimal learning, and more importantly, the incredible support of our families.”
